Review of MAGIX Fastcut

MAGIX Fastcut review

The arrival of the GoPro and its imitators like the iSAW EXtreme has seen a massive increase in the use of rugged mini camcorders to capture everything from extreme sports to gentle bike rides.

Now while the idea of capturing the moment is pretty exciting, even the most breathtaking ski run or wave ride can seem a little tedious if played out in its entirety. So MAGIX have decided to help out by producing a handy editing package specifically aimed at movie footage on action cams, smartphones and tablets.

Once Fastcut is loaded, you're immediately offered the choice to load a completed or partially completed video, create a new one or watch an introductory tutorial to get you started. You then import your footage via SD card or USB cable and choose which clips you want to use for your finished film.

If you want to produce an almost instant video of your adventures, then Fastcut comes with 15 ready-made templates that can be tailor-made to between 30 and 180 seconds, complete with varying soundtracks that can capture fast action, documentary feel or slow moods.

You can then upload the results to Facebook and YouTube so your friends can admire your handiwork or save them to your iPhone, iPad, Android phone or other tablets.

Obviously you can manually edit your material instead and there are quick sliders and a colour wheel to alter hues, sound levels (including wind noise) and contrasts rapidly. You can also have a lot of fun altering your clips with a series of effects including sepia, black and white, old movie style and vignette.
Slow motion can be introduced, the video can even be played backwards, the image rotated 180 degrees, subtitles added and you can apply correction to backlight issues, fisheye distortion and camera shake.
Now that MAGIX have also cut the cost from £59.99 to £39.99, this should definitely be worth considering for making the most of your action footage.
